The Playlist

One thing about our wedding that makes me super happy, is the fact that multiple people have told us how much fun they thought it was.  I know I may be biased, but I think they’re right.  Probably one of my favorite things from our wedding is the playlist.

Back when we first started dating, one thing we would do is put YouTube on the Chromecast, and we’d both keep adding videos to the stream.  It made for many hours of inexpensive entertainment.  Since we weren’t having a dance at the wedding, the boy had the idea of putting together a giant YouTube playlist that would run in the background throughout the reception.  It’s filled with nerd music, parodies, and some pretty random weirdness.  It’s also a pretty good look at what entertains the two of us.  So, whether you were at the wedding and confused by the quiet YouTube videos, or just wanting to watch an eccentric stream of videos, I’m going to share the playlist with all of you!

1.  Make house look like two sane people inhabit it, instead of one sane person and one deranged squirrel person.

2.  Work on wedding Thank You notes.  Why is this such a difficult task for me to complete? 

3.  Find the bathroom decorations that are still packed.  I’m tired of our bathrooms looking like they belong in a college dorm.

4. Go to the gym.  I hate that when I miss a few weeks at the gym, I actually can tell.  I miss being young and unaware of the need to exercise.  Now, it makes me feel all the pain, and I tend towards being super cranky.

5.  Make bread.  We’re completely out, and I want toast.

6.  Figure out someway to make the spiders go bye-bye.  I want to be able to go sit on my swing without living in fear of having something 8-legged climb on me.

7.  Watch Doctor Who.  Strange, that I have to actually write this down, but I didn’t have a to-do list written up on Monday and I completely missed the premiere of Big Bang Theory.

8.  Find a plant for my office.  My boss said it’s fine to put one in the window, I just need to buy one.

Random Saturday Musings

-So, today I was at Hancock Fabrics, and I looked up from whatever it was I was looking at and noticed a couple of people at the end of the aisle.  Normally, I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, but what drew my attention was that two of them were wearing the Fourth Doctor scarves.  (Two different versions.)  They turned out to be pretty cool, and randomly meeting fellow Whovians totally made my day.

-I’ve yet to hear back from the job I interviewed with last week.  They told me they’d let me know one way or another by the end of this week.  I’m hoping that they simply forgot to figure in the fact that Christmas was this week, and I’ll hear something next week.  I’ve been in full blown panic since last night.  I know I shouldn’t worry, but being jobless is not something I handle brilliantly.  Plus, I really want the job at the lab, and the longer I have to wait to find out if I got the job makes me more and more stressed.

-The flu has been bouncing around our home since Christmas Eve.  It finally attacked me this afternoon.  Hopefully it’s about run out of steam.

-I’m super excited about the S Loom I got for Christmas.  I do loom knitting, and I’ve been drooling over the S Loom for a couple of years now.  I’m really bad at stitching panels together to create a blanket, so the S Loom was really appealing to me because it allows me to make blankets without having to mess with the stitching of panels.

-So, I’m not sure if I stumbled across something really incredibly stupid, or the most brilliant money-making scheme ever.  Yesterday, I was at the grocery store and one of the freezer endcaps had a deal featured that was if you bought 6 Lean Cuisines you got either a free pack of Skinny Cow ice cream treats or a free container of Edy’s ice cream.  Now, I thought people at Lean Cuisine because of the weight brought on by eating things like Edy’s.  However, if the person on the diet eats the Edy’s, they’ll gain weight and need more Lean Cuisine.

-Yesterday, I went to the Joslyn, and was once again confronted with the fact that while I really love art, I just don’t get modern art.  There was a piece of paper that was painted with a rectangle of black and a rectangle of grey.  Those were the only things on that piece of paper, and it was hung proudly on the wall.  I’m confused.  What about that makes it art?  I grew up believing that art was something you put your heart and soul into.  Maybe the artist is obsessed with rectangles.  I can’t think of any other reason that makes it make sense.

-I was introduced to Spotify this week.  It’s what I’ve always wanted Pandora to be.  I like that if I’m in the mood to hear a specific song, Spotify will play said song, and not one that it judges to be similar.  Although, I’m really hating that tonight Spotify is insisting on playing Trojan commercials every single time it goes to a commercial break.

-I can’t believe it’s almost 2013.

-Tonight I realized that the relationship of Sherlock and John on Sherlock is exactly like that of Sheldon and Leonard on Big Bang Theory.  John is Sherlock’s filter.  He’s the one who keeps Sherlock in check.  This is pretty much what Leonard does for Sheldon.

-Speaking of Sherlock, !!!!!!!!HERE BE SPOILERS!!!!!!!  I’m still trying to figure out how he survived suicide.  Obviously, he did, but how.  Mom’s theory is that there was a mask that he put over Moriarity’s face.  Possible, but it’s still bothering me that we were shown someone alive standing on the edge of the roof moving around.  I know that Molly had to have helped him cook up some solution, but I still can’t quite put my finger on what it is.

-So, I spent the better part of today with my parents making the videos for both Monday & Tuesday’s blog entries.  I’m super excited for all of you to see them, and hope that you all have as much fun watching them as we had making them.

-I’m back doing job interviews.  I’d forgotten how much I truly hate job hunting.  It’s so incredibly stressful, and I have a terrible time judging whether an interview has gone well or not.  I went to an interview on Wednesday, and got a call on Thursday asking me to come in for a second interview on Friday morning.  At the end of the second interview, I was asked to sign the paperwork to have a background check done, and to also do a drug test.  The background check was no biggie, but not unlike others in this world, the whole peeing in a cup thing is just not the easiest thing in the world for me to accomplish.  The task proved impossible yesterday, so I found myself back trying again this morning (the place I’m doing this for is a lab, so the testing is done on-site).  My mom, knowing that I have always struggled with the whole bladder not cooperating thing decided to encourage me by quoting Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory episode about the ring from Lord of the Rings.  Basically, Sheldon does this whole bit about “Waterfalls…Leaky Faucets…Peeing!” in an effort to make the other guys have to pee.  Normally, this sort of thing doesn’t work on me, but when my mom was yelling it at me as I was getting out of the car it certainly seemed to help.  So, I guess I can say that Big Bang Theory helped me pee in a cup.  Now, I’m just hoping to hear from the job that they want to hire me.  The gal who gave me my second interview told me that the background check and drug test weren’t a job offer, but I know how both things are expensive, so I’m thinking that they’re at least seriously considering hiring me since they’re going ahead with the checks.

-I think I’m coming down with a cold.  Not my idea of a fun way to head into Christmas.

-Saw The Hobbit in the IMAX 3D yesterday.  It was so stunning!  Plus, I found that the second viewing was even better than the first.  I still hated to see it end.  It’s going to be a long year waiting for The Desolation of Smaug.

 

Random Saturday Musings

-Tonight is the final Doctor Who episode that will feature Amy and Rory Pond as companions.  Even though Amy isn’t my favorite of the companions, I still find this kind of sad.  There’s been all kind of rumors of how the Ponds are going to depart.  I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both get killed, especially since the one thing that keeps getting repeated is that there will be no return of the Ponds after tonight’s episode.  I find it fascinating that one of the things that this show does really well is make you care about the characters.

–Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is making me really weepy today.  I enjoy this movie, but it doesn’t usually turn on the waterworks.

-I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I really love my penguin pillow pet.  I really only got it because I thought it was cute, but I’ve discovered it’s great for cuddling with while sleeping.

-I never realized that in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory there was a character, towards the beginning, that is at the psychiatrist.  The character is called “Hofstadter.”  This is also the same last name as the character Leonard on Big Bang Theory, and Leonard’s mother is a psychiatrist.  I don’t know if this is just a weird coincidence, or if it was a tip of the hat to Willy Wonka.

-Another fun fact, the kid who played the original Charlie Bucket grew up to be a veterinarian.

-I’m not obsessed with these movies (in fact, the original really freaked me out when I was little, and I’m still not a big fan of it).  They’ve been running them on t.v. this afternoon while I’ve been working on homework.

-The other night the newscaster used the term “interweb” which he followed up by saying, “We’ll be back tomorrow, same bat channel, same bat time.”  It kind of make me homesick, cause my Saturday night routine at home is to watch two episodes of the Adam West Batman.  Also, I’m wondering if the newscaster lost a bet.

-I can’t believe how warm it has been.  It’s especially crazy when you consider that I’m in North Dakota and October is a day and a half away.

-I survived my first speak test in Spanish.  My reading went fine, but I paused way too much in the conversation part.  My professor said I write well, so I just need to figure out how to speak as well as I write.

-I’m really weirded out by the Skittles commercials I’ve been seeing.  The gal making out with a walrus and the girl who picks a skittle off the skin of the boy infected with Skittles-pox and then eats it are both really disturbing.

–Castle and Big Bang Theory start this week!

-The Emmy’s have been ridiculously boring, but the Big Bang Theory sketch was pretty entertaining.

-There’s still no snow!

-Having a whiteboard calendar.

-Being able to read.

-Being able to go to college.

-That I’ve been gifted with nearly 28 years of life.

-All the people that are near and dear to me.  I’m not good at telling people how important they are to me, and how much they have impacted my life.

-So, I’ve been putting it off, but I’m finally getting around to “watching” (actually, I’ve got the video on, but I’m pretty much listening to it) the video from the Empire Comic-Con of the panel of voice actors reading Star Wars.  Not only are they doing the reading in the voices that they’ve performed, but also in the voices of people like William Shatner, George Takei, and Christopher Walken.  Also, Poof and Twilight Sparkle as Han Solo.  The video is definitely worth a viewing, but it is really long (also, some of the language is really inappropriate). 

-I’ve started working on a baby blanket for my supervisor at work.  She’s due in December, and since the last time I made this kind of blanket it only took me a couple of days so I should get this done in plenty of time.

–Avengers comes out this week!

-My art “gallery” is growing.  

-It’s chilly, but  the sun is shining which makes it seem less sad that the season is changing.

-I’m so excited for the return of Big Bang Theory!

-It’s Baggins birthday weekend!

-Also, they put out a new trailer for The Hobbit.  I’m can’t wait to see the movie!

-Cappuccino sounds good right now.

-Skittles commercials are getting really creepy.

-I’m trying to figure out if something not nice was drawn on my whiteboard.

-I will be so glad when sorority recruitment is over with.

-It’s less than 2 weeks until the new season of Big Bang Theory, Castle, & Bones!

-I got an 88% on my first Spanish test!

-Pistachios are truly the best nut, followed closely by cashews and hazelnuts.

-I’m proud of myself for tying Doctor Who into one of my reading log entries for Beowulf.

-This afternoon I really missed my friends at home.

-I’ve managed to put up a blog post every day since I started this blog in August.  This is a big deal for me because I’m not good at sticking to goals.

-I really want to see Trouble With The Curve. 

-I hate when it gets dark and I think it’s really late and then I realize that there’s still several hours until it gets late.

-I realize that I’m sounding kind of negative tonight.  I don’t mean to, and tomorrow I’ll be back to my normally semi-cheerful self.
