‘Tis The Last Brakes of Summer

Published September 22, 2015 by ia84

It’s the last day of summer and I thought the perfect way to celebrate the end of a summer filled with car trouble would be to have my brakes completely go out.  Okay, they’re not completely gone…yet…  I’m sure in some parallel dimension they’re working absolutely perfectly, but this dimension saw me driving to work this morning, scared to death, wanting to cry every time I rolled through an intersection.   You never realize how many lights there are on your daily commute until you find yourself unable to stop and praying, “Lord, don’t let anyone hit me, and PLEASE don’t let me hit anyone.”  Let me just say, I am super thankful that I don’t work nights anymore.  Going to work in the early morning means minimal traffic to deal with.

It’s hard to believe that the summer is at an end.  This year is just going by too fast.  I know when I was little I always found it funny when adults would talk about time going quickly, or something happening not long ago (15-30 years is apparently not long ago to old people).  Time passing quickly is one of the things I truly dislike about getting older.

You know what else goes quickly the older you get?  The flavor in gum.  When I was little, I could chew a piece of gum for hours before it lost it’s taste.  Now, I’m lucky if the flavor lasts more than thirty minutes.  Is it just me, or is gum less high quality these days?  Plus, to get any decent bubble blowing done, you have to chew 4-5 pieces.  That’s just wrong.  And yes, I’m almost 31 and I still blow bubbles (soap and gum).

So, good-bye summer.  Hello fall.

Well, Today Happened…

Sometimes, the best that can be said about a day, is that I got through it in one piece.  If today had walls, I’m pretty sure there would be fingernail claw marks on those walls.  And why is this?

Well, today was one week since I had the big root canal.  Woot woot.  I had a pretty bad reaction to the meds I got sent home on, so I’ve been treating the pain with copious amounts of  ibuprofen.  Now, if you know anything about ibuprofen, taking copious amounts of it for long periods of time is not exactly recommended.  So, over the last three days I’ve been working to wean myself off the ibuprofen, and today I decided to try to go cold turkey.  It actually went better than expected.  The pain is pretty much down to a dull ache, which is totally tolerable.  The only really rough moment came when I decided to try to chew gum.  Yeah, that was quite painful.  On the plus side, Dr. Pepper bubblegum actually does taste like Dr. Pepper.  Pain wise the day was okay.  Emotionally, the day stunk.

This always happens the first day I go cold turkey after being on meds.  I so rarely have to take meds, I really don’t handle them well.  Basically, the first day off, my emotions go completely bonkers.  Everything feels very extreme.  I always feel completely worthless (which I’m not).  I always feel like everyone one hates me (which they don’t).  I get really shaky and feel like I’m going to burst into tears any moment.  It’s a nasty cycle.  Fortunately, the first day is always the worst.  Tomorrow will be better.

In other news, today was the first of April, which means the first Camp NaNoWriMo of the year has officially started.  And I have officially written ZERO words.  Go me.  I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to write about, but I’m sure something will come to me eventually.  It’s more about the exercise of writing than anything.   Although, I’m currently feeling like this when I face the blank paper I’m attempting to fill with words…

Random Saturday Musings

-I chewed gum today.  I don’t remember the last time I chewed gum.  Weird.

-I really love my penguin pillow pet.  It’s so cuddly.

-The Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice was on t.v. last night, and I realized that the only reason I like it is because of the music.

-Today just felt off.  Everything I set out to do went wonky.

-I discovered that there’s a comic con scheduled for November here in Grand Forks.  If this is actually true, I’m really going to try to go.

-Just realized that the first time I saw Finding Nemo was the summer right after I graduated from high school.  Next May will mark ten years since I graduated.  When Nemo opens in theaters next week, there will be kids going who don’t remember the first time it came out.  I’m not sure how I feel about this.

-I called Gramma last night.  It was so weird to not asking how Grampa was or hearing him in the background.

-It makes me so angry when things mess with my mom’s blood sugar numbers.  This whole diabetes thing is so frustrating.

-I love my pink Wii remote.  It makes me so happy when I’m using my Wii.

-This Husker game is a bit of a nail biter.  I feel really bad for the UCLA players, their pants are tragic.

-So far it’s taken me over an hour to put this post together.

-Sometimes life is weird.  My life is weird.  And it’s weird in epic ways.  Some day I hope to share one of the most  epically (spelling?) weird moments I’ve ever had happen.

-Pudding is more yummy when you grow up.

-I dislike that the water up here dries my hair out so much.  I even put in leave in conditioner, but it doesn’t help.

-Facial hair is one of those dark secrets about adulthood that you never get told about.  You just get to be an adult and suddenly, boom, there’s these nasty, annoying hairs demanding to be dealt with.
